Review (1)

Two teenagers discover how an unexpected turn of fate can bring new love to heal old wounds in Jessica Pennington’s stunning, romantic YA novel When Summer Ends.

Aiden Emerson is an all-star pitcher and the all-around golden boy of Riverton. Or at least he was before he quit the team the last day of junior year without any explanation. How could he tell people he’s losing his vision at seventeen?

Straight-laced Olivia thought she had life all figured out. But when her dream internship
falls apart, her estranged mother comes back into her life and her long-time boyfriend
ghosts her right before summer break, she’s starting to think fate has a weird sense of

Each struggling to find a new direction, Aiden and Olivia decide to live summer by chance. Every fleeting adventure and stolen kiss is as fragile as a coin flip in this heartfelt journey to love and self-discovery from the author of Love Songs & Other Lies.

Review (3)

I don’t know how many times I have to say how much I love Jessica Pennington’s writing, but I’ll say it again and again without hesitation.

When Summer Ends is the fantastic second novel from Jessica Pennington, and yet again, we are frozen to our cores with awe and hunger for more.

This book follows to characters by the names of Olivia and Aiden. Olivia is living the safer life, thinking that everything she has will be fine and that she’ll live the happily forever after. However, this all changes when she and her boyfriend break things off. Following this, she loses the chance at her dream job when the business closes, and the disaster continues when she finds out her mother is returning home.

On the other hand, Aiden is suffering a different fate. The once baseball-pitching-star is forced to quit when his eyesight takes a turn for the worst. Now that he’s lost his dream, he’s faced with the reality of working for his family’s company—with who he still believes is his teammate’s girlfriend Olivia.

These two were up and down, heads and tails, searching and finding throughout the entire book, and I LOVED it. My only problem with this book felt more centered around Olivia when it was dual-POVed to also fit Aiden.

Through thick and thin, I will always love and support Jess and her work. I love everything she puts out for us, and I will soak it up whenever given the chance. Altogether, I rate this novel 4 stars.

I HIGHLY suggest you check this book out if you haven’t decided to already.

Review (2)

Jessica Pennington is no stranger to the combination of love and drama. She’s a wedding
planner, after all. A writer since the age of ten—when she sought publication for her poem about a tree—Jessica likes the challenge of finding the humor in a sad situation or
highlighting the awkwardness in a romantic one. A serial entrepreneur with a B.A. in public relations, Jessica has a passion for grassroots marketing. She lives in a Michigan beach town, where she owns more YA novels than many teens and spends most of her time on a laptop, rather than on a beach.
